Kyoko is working as a part time waitress at DEN. Kyoko is a 25-year-old, former white-collar worker from Japan. She met Shinji in the airplane to Canada and has been chasing after him ever since. Shinji feels nothing but annoyance for Kyoko, but she is forceful.
As promised, on Friday, Shinji goes to DEN with Hiromi after school. Jimmy and Christine are already there waiting at the table. Shinji introduces Hiromi to Christine and Jimmy. Sure enough, as soon as they sit down, Kyoko appears at the table.
Good evening, everyone. I am Kyoko and I’ll be your server. Oh, Shinji! I am glad to see you! I was thinking it’d be great if you could come!
Shinji becomes very red but pretends to be cool. He speaks to everybody while avoiding looking at Kyoko.
Oh, hi. (Raising his hand a bit). I didn’t know you work here. We’re having an important talk tonight. Well, everybody, what are you going to order?
Suppressing laughter, Hiromi comes to the rescue.
I heard this restaurant serves delicious food. Steak is very expensive in Japan. Canadian steak is huge. I am getting hungry!
After they order, a very curious Kyoko delivers the food. The mood of the table is awkward but they somehow finish eating. Christine speaks:
Are you involved with the gender-free movement much, Hiromi? How did you become interested in the gender-free movement?
When asked, Hiromi’s face becomes serious at once. She says:
I don’t know so much about the gender-free movement. But, one of the reasons I came to Canada is related to the gender-free issue.
As the conversation develops unexpectedly, they all look at Hiromi with interest.
To be continued.
